By reading and reflecting on the letters of Vincent Van Gogh to his brother Theo, we do not merely have biographical pages that narrate the genesis of his works in front of us. There is much more.
There is a story made up of questions, disappointments, illness, and remarkable encounters. There is a truly original thread called “hope.”
For those who want to take some time and ascend to San Rocco, carving out a moment to get closer to the life and work of this author, they will find an oasis of silence to linger not only on what they read and admire but to discover or rediscover the warm colors of life; those colors that range from the deep blue of the sky to the yellows and golds of sunlight. In the portraits, among the wrinkles of the faces, one can penetrate the folds of life and seek out those desires and dreams that are the engine of life itself, in its various ages.
The color of infinity embraces the story of each of us and is the backdrop of this exhibition in the Holy Year 2025: the Holy Year of hope.
This exhibition, also reflecting on Van Gogh's life, is dedicated to those who have seen hope fade away. From this artist, from his struggle to live, from his thousand questions, we want to seize that horizon of hope that allows us to see beyond the present of each person and to lay today, whatever it may be, the foundations for a better future.
Within the exhibition, the catalog curated by Prof. Roberto Filippetti, the "Letters to Brother Theo," and other useful resources to understand the theme of the exhibition are available for purchase. Other collateral initiatives will be communicated on the website www.parrocchiaduomo.it and on the websites of the cultural partners.
