"the comic who challenged Hitler"
Tragicomic monologue inspired by a true (or almost) story
Mel is a Jewish kid from Brooklyn with a big dream and terrible timing. He grows up between poverty, guilt, and a mother who always knows what's best for him. But he has a special gift: he makes everyone laugh. Always. Even when he shouldn't.
For him, humor is a survival strategy. And when war breaks out, that gift will follow him all the way to Europe. He enlists almost by mistake, and finds himself thrust into the madness of World War II.
But his big mouth – and a couple of wrong choices – land him in a concentration camp (...)
...An overwhelming monologue, tragicomic, bittersweet, and irresistibly Yiddish.
The show traverses childhood, war, and imprisonment through the filter of humor and memory. A journey between life and the stage, where every character is a challenge, and every laugh… an act of freedom.
