The event is part of the civil calendar of March in Belluno.
In addition to the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, on that same day, the city commemorated the ten partisans hanged at the Bosco delle Castagne (an event dating back to March 10, 1945) and on the 17th, the four freedom fighters who were also hanged in Piazza dei Martiri (then Campedel).
The book at the center of the meeting contains references to stories of women from Belluno and photographs preserved by the Isbrec, starting from the cover image and focusing on the presence and participation of women in the liberation struggle.
The work of Margherita Becchetti is part of a trend – gender history – which is increasingly explored and frequented by research that, in relation to the partisan war, has found significant development especially in recent decades.
For a long time, the issue of female presence was dismissed as a mere contribution or participation that did not fully highlight the role actually played by women.
Becchetti's book emphasizes the concrete contribution made by the female world to the struggle against Nazi-Fascism, starting from some questions: what did it mean for those women to enter a man's world?
How were they perceived? What internal blocks and prejudices did they have to overcome? What satisfactions or disappointments did they derive from that experience?
These questions aim to be addressed in the meeting on March 16, during which the author will discuss her book with Enrico Bacchetti, director of the Isbrec.
Participation is free.
