At the charming location of Palazzo Poli - De Pol in San Pietro di Cadore, the performance titled Lolita in Tehran will take place, a scenic reading based on the book “Reading Lolita in Tehran” by Azar Nafisi.
What is the role of literature? Why should we bother to read it?
With this question, Azar Nafisi, an Iranian professor and writer, begins the course on Western literature at the University of Tehran following the Khomeini revolution.
As the city becomes a theater of violence and human rights, especially for women, are increasingly trampled by the regime, Nafisi pursues a dream.
After resigning from her academic position, she creates a sort of “literary salon” in her living room, gathering some students to discuss literature.
The texts of Persian and Western narrative blend with the daily lives of the students in a cultural contamination that becomes a hymn to freedom, a pathway to that other world, a world made of possibilities, hopes, and dreams to be realized.
A clear and sharp reflection also in light of what is still happening today in Iran, but which simultaneously underscores the cathartic power of art.
