Observing design from a feminist perspective helps us see the monopoly that a small but powerful minority has in determining the choices of a majority that has less voice but simultaneously suffers much more from the impacts of the decisions made at the top.
Renegotiating design starting from the bodies of women and gender minorities means renegotiating power, knowledge, historical transmission, and the function of objects, unmasking the androcentric, eternally normative, and partial structures that have guided design up until now, in order to transform them.
Questioning what it means that the majority of designers recognized by history and tasked with design are male, and in particular, what this means for women and minorities, serves not only to denounce an exclusion but also to imagine a liberation that also passes through design, envisioning a world where women study remedies starting from the re-appropriated knowledge of their bodies and from tools aimed at ensuring their reproductive health, pleasure, and security.
