The Koinè Association – Common Languages will hold a calligraphy workshop entitled A notebook of drawings and words (between reality and fantasy) inspired by the exhibition of Vico Calabrò at the Galleria d'arte moderna “Carlo Rizzarda”.
The initiative will take place on Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
Students will create a bound notebook containing images and texts written by hand with a fine-tipped pen.
On the first day, after a visit to the exhibition, during which participants will be able to take photographs, draw sketches, and draw inspiration from the works in the display, the project of the notebook will be presented and the structure of the booklet, where the images and handwritten texts will fit, will be designed.
The calligraphic style proposed for this workshop is the fine-tipped monoline italic writing, suitable for captions, short texts, or even longer ones accompanying the images. In this regard, students will be provided with handouts featuring letters to reproduce so they can practice their hand on the ductus and shapes of the chosen writing style.
On the second day of the workshop, once the layout of their personal notebook is designed, students will be able to use various techniques such as collage, drawing, and color to create a dynamic booklet in which the images interact with the words. The notebook will then be bound by each student using one of the techniques suggested in class.
The course will be taught by Alessandro Fiorentino.
