The story is a perfect mechanism, simple in the succession of scenes, easily adaptable to an undefined time and place.
Aristide and Lello raise two orphaned girls intending to make them their brides, but only the first treats his beloved by giving her trust and granting her freedom, thus managing to win her feelings. The other, tyrannically severe, compounded by the naivety induced by his restrictions, instead sees his woman become prey to a young and romantic suitor.
The work, which mainly thrives on Lello's comedy contrasted with Aristide's foresight, offers us a snapshot of how the fragility of man and the inability to relate to the opposite sex can lead to rigid, even violent, and, in our case, utterly ridiculous attitudes. The emotional education of men, but more generally the education to relationships, is necessary to support the growth, independence, and strength of women, a cornerstone of any community. ...
