On the occasion of the WORKS FESTIVAL (April 30 - May 10, 2026) "Sindrome Italia: the story of our caregivers, between theater and comics".
With Tiziana Francesca Vaccaro Author and actress
Sindrome Italia is the medical term used to indicate the set of disabling diseases that affect Eastern European women who share a precise history: the years lived as migrants in Italy, working as domestic workers and family assistants, far from their families and children. What happens to these women afterward? When they return to their country? What will happen to their future? Is it really as they imagined?
In this meeting, two different arts, theater and comics, come together to tell a complex and layered medical-social phenomenon. Tiziana Francesca Vaccaro will recount how this work began, which first saw the birth of the theatrical performance “Sindrome Italia. Or of suspended lives” and subsequently the graphic novel published by BeccoGiallo, “Sindrome Italia. The story of our caregivers,” created together with the cartoonist Elena Mistrello. The narrative will be interspersed with readings of some fragments from the theatrical text.
