On the occasion of the WORKS FESTIVAL (April 30 - May 10, 2026) "Prometheus and Pandora. The Work of Men and the Work of Women".
Prometheus gives fire to mankind; it is the beginning of history; it is from fire that work and art arise, transforming the world and the lives of mortals. But the gift of fire could be a mistake. In fact, the idea that there is a mistake, even a rather serious one, is one we already sense in Hesiod. But then we find it everywhere, in the tragedy of Aeschylus, in comedy, in the fables of Aesop, in the satire of Lucian. Doubt about his actions and about what men do exists from the very beginning and remains forever. A source of worry and pride, surrounding our history and our daily work.
The meeting is curated by Alberto Camerotto, professor of Greek Language and Literature at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and creator of the national project Classics Against, which since 2010 brings ancient thought to the major Italian theaters, and by Marcella Farioli, a Greek scholar at the Université Paris Est-Créteil and collaborator of the project. Her research focuses on Greek theater, the history of ancient utopia, and the analysis of sexual social relations in the Greek world.
