The text, published with the support of the Veneto Region and the General Directorate of Libraries and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by the State Archive of Belluno, ANPI, 23 municipalities, and the province of Belluno, presents itself, also in its graphic form, as the natural continuation of the project launched years ago by the Historical Institute of Belluno, which initially resulted in the publication of the volume The Courage and Passion. Recognized Partisans and Patriots in the Belluno Area and Belluno Military Partisans Recognized Abroad, edited by Franco Comin and Silvia Comin under the scientific direction of Enrico Bacchetti, Diego Cason, and Adriana Lotto.
The volume reconstructs the history of the resistance movement that operated across the provinces of Belluno and Treviso, drawing on almost exclusively archival sources, from the State Archive of Belluno to the Central State Archive in Rome (Ricompart Fund), to the Archives of the Historical Institutes of the Resistance in Belluno and Vittorio Veneto, to the Center for University Studies on the History of the Resistance and the Contemporary Era in Padua.
Also used are the testimonies published and recorded on audiocassettes by the protagonists and specific literature.
In particular, the first part focuses on the birth of the five formations operating in the Left Piave area from Cansiglio to Monte Grappa, their actions, their political and military relationships, their dealings with allied missions, and partisan justice.
The second part consists of about 1500 profiles of partisans, patriots, collaborators, and distinguished individuals.
In the third part, significant documents produced by the formations during the twenty months of struggle are also largely collected.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Borgo Valbelluna, the Tina Merlin Association, and ANPI.
Free admission.
