On Saturday, November 8, the theatrical performance "Oxytocin" will take place as part of the XVI Edition of the 5Vie theater festival, at the Teatro San Gaetano in Castion.
Claudia and Flavio are two young Romans selected for a clinical study that promises to simulate falling in love through a pill. But their incompatibility is immediately evident: she is radical chic, and he is a working-class boy with far-right ideas.
Oxytocin explores how much social context weighs on our behaviors, moral principles, and ideas, examining the contradictions that characterize two of the main stereotypes of Roman youth.
This performance aims to be a reflection on human nature, the power of communication, and a generation's relationship with identity and political engagement. If it is true that we are a product of our environment, do we have the tools to choose a path different from that determined by our social context? Is education and culture truly sufficient to counteract the narrative of hate perpetuated by certain political movements? How many of our behaviors are influenced by social expectations and the desire to belong to a group? Does dialogue between different people serve any purpose, or are human beings fundamentally selfish and xenophobic?
Oxytocin attempts to open a reflection on all of this while simultaneously telling the story of two kids with very different backgrounds and experiences, who, by breaking down the wall of misunderstanding, discover that they are, in the end, quite similar creatures.
