nurraumproject of Vittorio Veneto presents the latest project by artist Enrico Michieletto (Charleroi 1962). In the 54 exhibited works, the author analyzes the theme of appearance, identifies some deceptive aspects utilized by communication and with which we increasingly have to confront. The title, an ancient proverb, and perhaps a little forgotten, is concretely expressed in the exhibited works which, ostensibly seem made of precious material, like gold itself, but which in substance are nothing more than simple colored cardboard.
Some represented images allude to precious objects, others are tangles of geometric shapes inspired by nature. In all the works there is a subtle sense of irony, the reflections produced by light on the "golden" surfaces generate evocative chromatic effects between shiny and matte areas. Even on this occasion, Michieletto does not hide his personal experience, just as in "The Fakes" (2021) and "Culture Tells the False" (2024), the strategy of deception is placed at the center and described as a fairy tale for children. In each exhibited work there is a true story,
a memory of events and places where the artist has lived. In this new exhibition the intention is to exacerbate the ambiguity and hypocrisy that characterize the human soul, dazzled by appearance, a trap that often condemns it to become increasingly poorer and more alone.
