On the occasion of the WORKS FESTIVAL (April 30 - May 10, 2026), "It Is Not Fair. Italy of Inequalities."
With Giacomo Gabbuti, Researcher of Economic History at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna Pisa
How much does inheritance weigh on our chances of success? How much does a manager earn compared to a factory worker? How much does the richest 1% in our country take home? And how much does the poorest half?
In this meeting, we draw on the most recent and cutting-edge studies to discuss economic inequalities in Italy: from the explosion of gaps between female and male workers to extreme social immobility, from the differing consequences of climate change on the rich and the poor to the return of wealth and inheritance to levels not seen since the late 19th century. Giacomo Gabbuti, a researcher of Economic History at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and a member of the Forum on Inequalities and Diversity, will highlight the injustices these inequalities represent, starting from the analyses contained in the book he edited titled "It Is Not Fair. Italy of Inequalities" published by Laterza. Without abandoning the tools of academic debate, the presentation will outline how significant these disparities are, comparing them with those of other countries and historical periods.
