The Ex Tempore Wood Sculpture is a competition, organized by the Consorzio Belluno Centro Storico, that has represented the most anticipated event of the Belluno autumn for years, during the time leading up to the beloved feast of the patron Saint Martin (November 11).
Established in the now distant 1986, the event is one of the most important national exhibitions for popularity and tradition: the participants in the symposium come from all over Italy.
Day by day, amidst the scent of larch wood and the sound of chisels and chainsaws, the sculptors animate the streets and squares of the historic center, shaping their works under the curious gaze of passersby, young and old.
At the end of the week dedicated to the creation of sculptures, the Jury Prize “Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti”, the “Stampa” prize, and the "Fidapa" prize are awarded. Subsequently, the works are displayed for public voting, which grants the most voted artist the “Città di Belluno” prize and the “Bambini” prize.
During the symposium, numerous collateral initiatives dedicated to art, craftsmanship, and local wood culture are planned.
