The volume reconstructs the history of the resistance movement that operated across the provinces of Belluno and Treviso, drawing on almost exclusively archival sources, from the State Archive of Belluno to the Central State Archive in Rome (Ricompart Fund), to the Archives of the Historical Institutes of the Resistance of Belluno and Vittorio Veneto, and to the Center for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Age of Padua.
Published and recorded testimonies on audiocassettes from the protagonists, as well as specific literature, are also included.
In particular, the first part focuses on the birth of the five formations operating in the territory of Left Piave from Cansiglio to Monte Grappa, their actions, their political and military relationships, their interactions with Allied missions, and partisan justice.
The second part consists of approximately 1500 profiles of partisans, patriots, collaborators, and benefactors.
The third part collects significant documents produced by the formations during the twenty months of struggle.
The text, published with the support of the Veneto Region and the General Directorate of Libraries and Cultural Institutions of the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by the State Archive of Belluno, Anpi, and 23 municipalities along with the Province of Belluno, presents itself, also in its graphic design, as the natural continuation of the project initiated years ago by the Belluno Historical Institute, which first emerged in the publication of the volume The Courage and Passion. Partisans and Patriots Recognized in Bellunese and Belluno Military Recognized Partisans Abroad, edited by Franco Comin and Silvia Comin under the scientific direction of Enrico Bacchetti, Diego Cason, and Adriana Lotto.
