On Saturday, October 18, the theatrical performance "Cea Venessia - A Local Odyssey from the Northeast to Australia" will take place as part of the XVI Edition of the 5Vie theater festival, at the Teatro San Gaetano in Castion.
Australia, 1882. A group of colonists from Veneto and Friuli establishes the first collective Italian settlement on the continent. The name by which the colony is orally passed down from generation to generation is Cèa Venessia (Little Veneto), because it was meant to remind those who arrived of home. The name that appears in documents is, however, New Italy, one of the cradles of Italian emigration on the southern continent.
The performance tells the story of these migrants and their journey. They were the Tomè, the Nardi, the Bellotto, the Roder, the Antoniolli, the Piccoli, and many others who, driven by hunger and misery, fell victim to the promises of a French nobleman, Marquis De Rays.
With Stefano Rota - Original subject and direction by Marco Zoppello - Original music: Enrico Milani and Matteo Minotto - Production Stivalaccio Teatro, TSV – Teatro Nazionale, OperaEstate Festival - under the patronage of Ass. Veneti nel Mondo and Ass. Trevisani nel Mondo
