"BEWARE OF THE DOG" by Enrico Michieletto
At the entrance of the gallery, a sign reading "BEWARE OF THE DOG", inside a single large painting depicting two little dogs (cm. 456 x 216). With this message, Enrico Michieletto (Charleroi 1962) turns the meaning upside down & portrays two little dogs that are "cautious" and worried about being attacked by a dog. The ambiguity of the sign confuses the visitor, making them uncertain and skeptical about whether to enter the exhibition space. On this occasion, the author highlights the theme of masculinity, which is increasingly seen as a danger. Attention shifts to the conflict between the sexes, the perfect food for making society more and more divisive and built on prejudices. Michieletto imagines that, in the near future, the usual "BEWARE OF THE DOG," which we see displayed on the gates of houses, could be replaced with "BEWARE OF THE DOG", but only if there are two little dogs living there....
