Venetian Emigration Museum MEV

The Venetian Emigration Museum (MEV) tells one of the most significant events in the history of Veneto: the emigration of millions of people who, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, left their homeland to build a new life in every part of the world.

Born from the evolution of the Interactive Migration Museum (MIM), inaugurated in 2013, the MEV expands its focus from Belluno emigration to that of the entire regional territory, offering an engaging journey through historical documents, photographs, films, testimonies, multimedia installations, and digital tools that guide the visitor during the discovery.

The exhibition unfolds over three levels. The ground floor introduces the theme of departure, narrating the journeys, hopes, and difficulties faced by emigrants, while also looking at trades and migration movements within Italy. The basement delves into the world of work, the professions that characterized Venetian emigration, the stories of men and women who made their mark, and the events that have shaped collective memory. The journey concludes on the second floor, dedicated to the new communities built by Venetians abroad, through letters, documents, bulletins, and testimonies that recount the bonds maintained with the homeland and the contributions made to the development of the destination countries.

The museum offers an immersive experience that allows visitors to learn about a phenomenon that has profoundly shaped the identity of Veneto and its communities worldwide through personal stories and archival materials.
