Mosaici paleocristiani di Jesolo

In the archaeological area of the ancient walls of Jesolo, interesting artifacts have been found; from the collapse and the remains of the monumental Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (11th century AD, commissioned and financed by Equilian families), mosaic floors have been collected and cataloged by the Archaeological Superintendency for Veneto, whose tiles have been restored. To achieve the original mosaic texture - now visible on modern aluminum panels enclosed in the exhibition room of the Jesolo Tourist Information Office - they first photographed the findings, then intervened on the panels with reversible adhesive tissue and cotton veils, then executed counter molds in concrete for each panel after protecting the surfaces of the mosaics with a polyethylene film and subsequent flipping of the panels, a very lengthy meticulous task. "De petra que habemus in equilo" is the title of the exhibition and features a photo of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta dated to the late 19th century in which the ruins can be seen, thus marking a major conservation restoration effort on remains that were buried.
