The trail (path 1060) follows the ancient route known as "the Patriarch's road," named in honor of the Patriarch of Aquileia Raimondo Della Torre, who had it built to improve commercial transportation between the foothills and Cansiglio. The itinerary begins just outside the village of Villa di Villa, at the height of the Faidel road, from where the ruins of the Castle of Cordignano, called Castelat, can be seen. The Castelat, of late Roman origin, became in the 12th century first the domain of the Da Camino family and later of Venice. In the 15th century, it was abandoned and slowly fell into ruin. From here, continuing along the path via a dirt road, you arrive at Lama di Zei, from where you can reach Col Castelir. This hill is located on the border with the Municipality of Caneva and its strategic position, along with some archaeological finds from the Paleovenetian era, suggests that it was once a hill fort. From the lama, one reaches the Pianai area, where there is a well-preserved characteristic roccolo. Leaving Col Castelir on the left and continuing uphill, you arrive at loc. Lamar and cross the paved road to reach the "Pojat," once inhabited by the charcoal burners of the area. From here, you can return back, descending to Lama Lunga and Pian de Posoc, from where you continue until the castle of Cordignano.
The trail is 20 km long with a height difference of about 700 meters. For detailed information on the route, please contact the organization.
