The Civetta Bike Tour touches some of the most significant points in the area. Due to the demanding climbs and the very technical and steep descents, the route is only suitable for those who are confident in riding an electric bike. For those who wish to try their hand with a traditional mountain bike, it will be necessary, in addition to good off-road practice, to have good training and to plan for some pushing stretches.
The start is set at Piani di Pezzè, which we suggest you reach by cable car to avoid eroding the battery charge on the 5 km of uphill asphalt road to Piani. (cost of cablecar €. 10.00 bike transport including) The route is well signposted with the words "Civetta Bike Tour". We then climb up following the small service road of the ski lifts that runs alongside the Mariaz ski lift and then climbs towards F.lla Alleghe on a partly cemented ascent in the steepest part that favours progression.
At the fork, a beautiful view of the Zoldo valley opens up and we plunge downhill past the building that once housed the Malga Pioda hut. 4 km of descent on a dirt road, but at some points you can deviate for fun shortcuts between hairpin bends and arrive at the start of the Palafavera chairlift. Bending to the left, continue slightly uphill for about 3 km to Malga Boi Vescovà before reaching Malga Fontanafredda along a path and the more convenient little road. Leave the f.lla Pecol to the right and climb westwards to the watershed between the two valleys: the "Forcella dei Giai" and from here a nice, fast descent on the Selva di Cadore side until reaching the Ristoro Fertazza.
Following the track to the right of the ski slope, we ascend on tiring meadowy terrain towards Cima Fertazza. Here you must stop at the summit cross with its grandiose panorama of Alleghe il Lago and the Civetta, and just below is the Ristoro Belvedere. Cis moves towards Col Fioret to return to Alleghe. The descent, at first smooth, becomes steeper and more technical near the Ristoro La Ciasela from where the view of the Pelmo and Civetta is unparalleled.
After the stop, it's back to the steep descent, keeping to the left of the slopes with technical off-slope sections that are truly exciting. Caution and attention are recommended. At the junction below
Col dei Baldi, turn right, still following the signs for Pezzè, and tackle some extremely slippery and steep downhill sections with caution. Once you have crossed the slopes, you re-enter the forest towards Val D'Ajer, where you continue in wide hairpin bends towards Pezzè, which you soon reach. Short cuts are not recommended.
Once you have reached the arrival station of the cableway again, there is nothing left to do but return to Alleghe via the little municipal road, or by cableway for those who have rented bikes at altitude.
