The museum was created after the Second World War with the intention, by the city administration, to collect the various relics of the city and today it houses several sections.
The most important is the art gallery (Pinacoteca) which houses important works including: Delivery of the keys to St. Peter (1614/1616) by Palma il Giovane, Madonna with Child among the saints (1514) by Il Pordenone, fresco detached from the destroyed church of the Convent of Sant'Antonio in Conegliano; Life of Saint Peter, Last Supper of John of France (15th century), Annunciation, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Taddeo (1510/1517), organ doors from the workshop of Cima da Conegliano (attributed); Sacred Conversation of Francesco from Milan (16th century).
Then there is the archaeological section where we can find prehistoric and Roman remains found in the area of Conegliano and other objects of historical interest and the Sala del Camino (Fireplace room), a room containing an elegant chimney hood in the shape of a doge's horn. The top floor is dedicated to personalities linked to Conegliano and contains testimonies, busts and objects that belonged to them. At the end of the visit, a staircase leads to the crenellated summit, on which a terrace is mounted and you can enjoy the panorama of the city and the surrounding area.
