Anello della Biodiversità

This route, called the Biodiversity Ring for the variety of environments it traverses, develops in the area above Pian Canaie at the foothills of M. Croseraz. Some directional arrows assist hikers throughout the trail. Two quite challenging variants can be added to the base route. The base route has a total length of 8.2 km and the total walking time is estimated at about 3 hours and 30 minutes. The base route with the Pian Scalon variant measures a total of 11.3 km and can be completed in about 4 hours. The complete route, which includes the ascent to Croseraz, measures 12.8 km and takes about 5 hours to complete. Base Route The route begins at Pian Rosada (1053 m above sea level) where parking is available. You continue along the paved road towards Pian Canaie and after passing through the village, about 400 m later, take a dirt road that veers right into the beech forest at Val de Piera. Along the ascent, it is possible to observe numerous young beech trees growing on the right, in an area that was struck by a tornado about ten years ago. Near a fork located at about 1200 m, indicated by a directional arrow, turn right (after 1 hour and 30 minutes) and continue along avenue D on a relatively flat path rich in openings within the forest, where it is not difficult to glimpse animals such as deer and roe deer, or hear the rustling of the forest as they pass by. Upon reaching the intersection with trail CAl 922, cross it and continue along avenue D (white-red-white marker) on a slightly descending path until meeting trail CAl 984 (1 hour, total 2 hours and 30 minutes) which must be crossed to continue along avenue D until you reach (after about 10 minutes) the road (avenue B) leading to Pian dei Lovi. Shortly beyond Pian dei Lovi, continue along avenue D and upon reaching the intersection with avenue 6, proceed along this until you reach the road that leads back to Pian Rosada (total 3 hours and 30 minutes). Variant 1 ascent to Pian Scalon Near pillar 38 of Avenue D at Pian del Scheo (directional arrow), the variant that ascends to Pian Scalon begins, which is very interesting for the variability of environments it traverses, definitely the area with the greatest biodiversity in the entire Cansiglio Forest. To do this, take avenue B until pillar 13, then continue along the switchbacks of the road that branches off to the left to make the route less steep and arduous; rejoin avenue B and continue to Pian Scalon at the border with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (Fontana Agher). From here, descend first along the ridge following the boundary of the subsection (blue line marked on the trunks of the trees), then turn right near a clearing (directional arrow) and continue on a dirt road until you meet avenue D to then proceed along avenue 6 from where you continue until the road that leads back to Pian Rosada. Variant 2 to the summit of Croseraz From Fontana Agher, it is possible to reach the summit of M. Croseraz by following the steep path that leads to the top (1712 m above sea level) along the border between the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia Regions. The return follows the same path taken in ascent.
