Villa San Liberale, located along Viale di Cart, immersed in the greenery of its park, is a typical example of a country residence understood as a place of leisure. Its origins date back to 1644 when the Villabruna family purchased the property, which was transferred in 1650 to Notary Gavazzi who had obtained permission in 1649 to build an oratory dedicated to Saints Liberale. The property was later acquired in 1688 by Notary Vellaio, who had the oratory renovated to its current appearance for the marriage of his daughter Francesca to the noble Gianbattista Zugni in 1746. In 1814, the complex was sold to the Bianco family; Antonio Bianco married Teresita Fusinato, daughter of poets Arnaldo and Erminia Fuà, who posthumously published “The Confessions of an Italian” by the young Ippolito Nievo, of whom they were friends and who had been hosted at the villa by Carducci. In 1884, Erminia was born, who married Marquis Gaetano Palici Di Suni della Planargia; hence the name “Erminia.” In 2000, the villa was sold to the current owners.
Excellences of the villa: The complex consists of the main building (18th century), facing west. The façade is devoid of a pediment with a stone staircase leading to the large central hall, characterized by two rows of columns almost touching the walls, with Ionic capitals and painted marble-like shafts; this is a completely original solution that distinctly qualifies the interior, expanding its spatiality. The two monumental fireplaces are noteworthy. The layout of the large cellar from the pre-existing building remains. To the west are the stables, currently used as the caretaker's residence, while to the east, open to the avenue and delineating the grassy space, is the oratory, renovated in 2014, featuring the fresco “Madonna with Child” by Giovanni De Min. The characteristic stucco decoration of the vaulted lunette, with phytomorphic motifs and characteristic 18th-century landscapes with trees and false ruins, has a colored background and dates to 1746. The little bell tower with a pagoda-shaped spire is particularly curious.
Excellences of the context: Viale di Cart (adjacent), historic center of Feltre (Sena Theater, Alboino Castle, archaeological area, Cathedral, Civic Museum, Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, “Carlo Rizzarda” Museum), National Park of the Belluno Dolomites, Monastery of Saints Vittore and Corona, Lipoi Marsh, Vincheto of Celarda, Pedavena Brewery, Monte Avena ski resorts, Grappa Mountain Massif, Villas in the Pre-Alpine landscape of the Province of Belluno, Prosecco Hills.
