The Torre dell'Orologio is part of Feltre's castle and originally constituted the access door. On the west side of the Tower have been identified traces of an arched door that led, through a walkway, to the heart of the castle.
The building preserves on the western wall, corresponding to the ancient door, a stone shield of Gothic style, dated 1324, which recalls the rule of Feltre by Can Grande della Scala through his lieutenant Galesio Nichesola.
In 1406 under the podestà Francesco Foscari was restored and after the fire of Feltre in 1510 it still needed restoration that were carried out by the Greater Council of Feltre and embellished with frescoes now lost. Over the centuries, the moat and the drawbridge disappeared, another access route to the main nucleus is identified and the Tower undergoes structural and architectural changes.
At the end of the 19th century some Franciscan friars settled there for a short period of time and then they sold it to Nicolò Zugni Tauro. It later became municipal property.
To help us understand what the city was like and how it turned out there is a "window of time" inside the tower, from which you can witness the virtual reconstruction of the transformations suffered by the castle and Piazza Maggiore.
