Fardjma Agricultural Cooperative was established with the aim of protecting and enhancing the Pecora d'Alpago, a native sheep breed closely linked to the history, landscape, and rural traditions of Alpago.
The cooperative brings together local breeders committed to the conservation of the breed and the production of Agnello d'Alpago, recognized as a Slow Food Presidia. The animals are raised using traditional methods, in the wild or semi-wild, with a diet based on pasture and local fodder. From spring to autumn, the sheep graze in the meadows of Alpago, also contributing to the care and maintenance of the mountainous landscape.
Agnello d'Alpago is distinguished by its tender, compact, and delicate meat, traditionally associated with local gastronomy and offered by restaurateurs and businesses in the area.
The enhancement of Pecora d'Alpago does not solely concern food production. In fact, Fardjma also promotes the recovery of its virgin wool, naturally soft, compact, and warm, used for the production of yarns and artisanal products.
Through the work of the breeders, the cooperative thus contributes to the preservation of a local breed, the continuity of traditional agricultural practices, and the enhancement of the rural and gastronomic heritage of Alpago.
