The Giorgio Dal Piaz refuge, at an altitude of 1993 m, is located within the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park on the Feltrine Peaks, and is along the Alta Via 2 of the Dolomites, known as the Alta Via delle Leggende. For those trekking from Feltre, it represents the first opportunity to sleep at high altitude and experience the scent of the mountains, while for those traveling in the opposite direction, it serves as the starting point of the last stage, which leads to Pedavena-Feltre, with a stop almost mandatory at the largest brewery in Italy.
The structure is located near the Busa delle Vette, a large glacial circus also known as the “Busa delle Meraviglie” for the presence of some botanical rarities such as the Obir Alyssum and the Alpine Spurflower. The same mountain group where the refuge is located, the Feltrine Peaks, has a great richness of floral species, with the peak flowering typically occurring between June and July, resulting in a wonderful spectacle.
There are several access routes to the Dal Piaz refuge. They differ based on the starting location, walking time, and trail difficulty. The most frequented and well-known route is certainly from Passo Croce D’Aune. It would be worthwhile, for those who haven't already done so, to also experience the other access routes. The descriptions always indicate the shortest route, but variations are possible from Lamen, Vignui, and Imer as indicated on the topographic maps. This is why it is ESSENTIAL to always carry a topographic map of the area you intend to explore.
So it is up to you to choose the route to come and visit us!
