Poggio Pagnan Az. Agricola

Since 2015, Azienda Agricola Poggio Pagnan has expanded from the realm of cultivation to that of breeding. The animals raised include ducks, chickens, and especially pigs, which live in a semi-wild state outdoors, in large fenced spaces, free to "wander around" and feed on the resources of nature. The concept followed remains that of organic, in full respect of animal welfare: the feed provided for the growth of the animals is certified GMO free and supplemented with plants and organic corn grains, produced directly on the farm. The breeding is conducted for the purpose of marketing quality meats to private individuals and butcheries (e.g., Sperandio butcheries), as well as for the direct processing of the product.

In April 2017, Azienda Agricola Poggio Pagnan planted about one hectare of vineyard in Col Pagnan, in the locality of Zottier. This also follows the line of natural and organic, in total respect for nature and the environment. For this reason, chestnut wood poles from Tuscany have been chosen for viticulture. Regarding the type of vine planted, innovative varieties for our areas have been selected, belonging to the Piwi category, renowned for their resistance to fungal diseases, which are greatly feared by today’s winegrowers.

In 2020, we fulfilled our dream through the new project "Poggio Pagnan Lab". The old stalls of Costante and Ferruccio, located on the ground floor of the building that houses the agritourism rooms, have been transformed into our small winery, where we are now able to independently process the grapes we produce into the first four identifying wines of the Company: Pagnan, Costante, Riveta, and Cornera. We wanted to preserve as much as possible the historic structure with oak beams in the laboratories and exposed stones in the tasting room. As in all the recovery interventions that characterize us, history and innovation combine in a harmonious marriage of colors and materials.

The starting point was the cultivation of the land, leading to the realization of a much more ambitious project that includes the breeding of animals, viticulture, agritourism with rooms and dining....and much more, still held in the folds of the dream. The primary intent has been to recover the agricultural traditions of Val Belluna, in addition to better utilizing our land. We have recovered ancient crops such as vineyards, buckwheat, barley, hemp, and many others, following crop rotation, cycles, and the resting periods that the soil needs to regenerate and produce optimally.

Our company firmly rests on the principles of organic agriculture, in total respect for nature, its cycles, and its seasonality. We do not use any type of insecticide or pesticide, preferring rather ancient natural methods for the treatment of diseases and pests. Pursuing the ideal of minimal soil cultivation, we constantly invest in state-of-the-art machinery, also powered by renewable energies, minimizing the impact on the soil and the environment.
