Museo della Pietra e degli Scalpellini

The museum, recently moved to its new location in the former town hall of Castellavazzo, houses a collection of artifacts and equipment related to stone processing and the activity of stonemasonry, typical of the town of Castellavazzo, with insights also related to the provincial area.

The museum is organized into 5 sections, each linked to a specific theme:

1. The geological history: It offers a detailed geological framework of the entire provincial territory, analyzing the evolution of the tectonic structure and the variety and distribution of various lithological types.

2.  Stone presences: The importance and role that stone has had over the centuries is celebrated in this room where, splendid and precious testimonies, complete the didactic layout; the topics covered range from the most material and immediately perceptible uses to the more ethereal and spiritual contexts.

3. The stone in everyday life: A vast exhibition of artifacts and comprehensive testimonies highlights the close relationship between daily human activities and stone.

4. Extraction, processing, and transformation techniques of stone: The presence of reconstructions and artifacts, supported by immediate and in-depth educational content, leads visitors to discover the techniques of extraction, processing, and transformation of stone.

5. Castellavazzo: a town of stone, the stone of a town: An impressive setup pays homage to the historical events of the town of Castellavazzo, which has always inextricably linked its existence to its stone; a complete and rare collection of equipment, photographs, and testimonies celebrates the skilled generations of local stonemasons who could export their appreciated work to various locations not just in Europe.

On the ground floor of the building, the attached archaeological expo is open for visiting, showcasing artifacts found in the area of Castellavazzo dating back to the Roman era.
