The “Tonet” Hammer in Francenigo represents the first craft activity of the Municipality of Gaiarine, established in the early 20th century as a blacksmith workshop serving farmers for the construction and repair of agricultural tools. Beyond being a workplace, the Hammer functioned as a craft school, offering young people the opportunity to learn the art of blacksmithing.
Built between 1902 and 1909 by the Moro family, the complex includes the residential building and the old workshop, equipped with a hydraulic system that powered the water wheels and wooden hammers, allowing for the processing of iron and wood and the production of plows, spades, hoes, carpentry tools, and other agricultural instruments. The structure is centrally located, near a spring watercourse that provided a constant flow for the activity.
The interior preserves the original organization and tools, conveying the image of a historic productive environment and the sound intensity of the hammers in action. The “Tonet” Hammer is now open for visits and can be used for educational activities aimed at schools of all levels. The forge and hammers can be operated, by reservation, one Saturday a month thanks to the collaboration of the “Master Blacksmiths.”
