Every afternoon, between spring and autumn, the lake is affected by thermal wind blowing from south to north with intensity varying between 20 km/h and 40 km/h. This phenomenon is caused by the temperature difference created between the mountains of Alpago and the underlying Veneto plain, and is further accentuated by the forced passage of the wind through the narrowing in Val Lapisina to the north, not far from the village of Santa Croce.
Here you can enjoy a nice kitesurfing session, savoring a nice aperitif at the little bars on the lake beach. The wind comes from the southwest and is mainly thermal, so there are no real forecasts! Typically, the thermal wind picks up between 11 AM and 1 PM and always blows in the same direction. This strengthens in the early afternoon, and you can continue kitesurfing until sunset. In the hottest months (late July/August), there is a period of "drought." Even in winter, the right conditions for thermal development are not generated, so it is ideal to go during the mid-season and the early summer months. March and April are the windiest months.
