Ferrata Gianangelo Sperti

Challenging itinerary, long and very articulated with a variety of passages. Stunning views of the Schiara and all the main Dolomite groups of Belluno to the north.

Approach: The route begins from Case Bortot (695 m) with the aim of reaching the Rifugio VII Alpini at the foot of the Schiara. After parking, follow the CAI 501 path, crossing the Ponte del Mariano and continuing uphill through the woods along the Ardo stream until the refuge. From here, continue along path 504 towards the Ferrata and the Bivacco Sperti, reaching the start of the Ferrata Sperti after about 45 minutes.

The via ferrata begins with a rock climb, followed by a scree gully and a vertical wall with challenging sections. Continue on an equipped path until a gully that leads to the Bivacco Sperti (2000 m). From here, continue towards the Forcella Sperti (2250 m), overcoming a steep couloir with ropes and ladders.

From the pass, follow the route between the Gusela del Vescovà and the Pala del Balcon, facing equipped climbs and exposed panoramic sections. After passing the Nasòn, continue on an equipped section until reaching a vertical gully, and finally reach the Gusela del Vescovà, near the Bivacco Dalla Bernardina (2320 m), completing the Ferrata Sperti in about 6 hours and 30 minutes total.

History: The Ferrata Sperti is a magnificent itinerary, isolated and to be undertaken with the right awareness. It was inaugurated in 1963 following the wishes of the widow of the Belluno climber Giangelo Sperti. The construction was carried out by the CAI of Belluno to facilitate access to many climbing routes in the area. Along the way, there is also a bivouac with the same name.
