Located in a panoramic position overlooking the Valbelluna, the church is dedicated to the Madonna di Parè. The term Parè seems to derive from the dialectal term “dei parens” which means “mother of God.” Despite its remote origins, the church has undergone numerous alterations over the centuries, taking on its current neoclassical appearance in the 19th century.
Recent restorations have unveiled precious 16th-century frescoes and wall paintings, testifying to a rich artistic past. The church also houses an ancient Stations of the Cross, with fourteen capitals depicting the passion of Christ, which form the first part of the "Sentiero Buzzati", a hiking trail that retraces the steps dear to the Belluno writer. Dino Buzzati, a famous author of "The Miracles of Val Morel", found in this place an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The church and the surrounding paths have been the setting for many of his stories, and his spirit still lingers among these mountains today. The capital of Santa Rita, with the votive painting by Buzzati from 1971, is one of the most evocative stops along the trail.
