Casa Gera

Casa Gera is an ancient palace that you can encounter right in the center of Candide. Owned by the Gera family since the 1500s, it actually has older origins: as early as the 12th century, the original core of the building was inhabited by the counts Da Camino, feudal lords in Comelico on behalf of the Patriarch of Aquileia. When the palace came into the hands of the Gera family, it soon underwent modifications and expansions by Giacomo Gera, who was a very important figure in the history of Comelico.

In 1635, he indeed acquired La Stua di Padola, that is, the sluice that was opened on the stream to allow the logs to flow downstream, making it essential for the timber trade, one of the most precious resources for Val Comelico.

The palace today

Today, the house retains an older eastern part where you can admire a classic medieval-style entrance door, while the facade facing North is characterized by elements from a later era: a large entrance portal, elegant biforas, and the family crest. The palace is still owned by the Gera family, whose descendants use it as a summer residence, and is therefore not open for interior visits.

Housed within its walls are two beautiful lounges: one typically Venetian from the 1700s and one called “del Brustolon” in honor of the sculptor Pietro Brustolon (1662-1732), who created the invaluable sculpted ceiling.
