Casa Gera

In the heart of Candide stands Casa Gera, one of the most fascinating historic buildings in the Val Comelico. Owned by the Gera family since the sixteenth century, it has even older origins: as early as the twelfth century, the original nucleus was inhabited by the Counts Da Camino, feudal lords of the Patriarch of Aquileia.
With the arrival of the Gera family, the palace was enlarged and transformed at the behest of Giacomo Gera, a prominent figure in the history of Comelico. In 1635, he indeed purchased the Stua di Padola, the dam on the stream that regulated the transport of logs down the valley, a crucial infrastructure for the timber trade, one of the valley's main wealth sources.
Today, the palace still preserves traces of its various eras: the eastern part features a characteristic medieval portal, while the northern facade is distinguished by its imposing entrance, elegant biforas, and the coat of arms of the Gera family.
The residence still belongs to the descendants of the family, who use it as a summer residence, and it is not open to visitors. However, behind its walls lie two refined historic salons: one in Venetian style from the eighteenth century and the famous Brustolon Salon, adorned with the extraordinary decorated ceiling created by the sculptor Pietro Brustolon (1662-1732).
