Borgo Malanotte can be considered a real open-air museum. It takes its name from that of an ancient family of wealthy wool merchants, the "Malanotti" or "Malenotti", originally from Caldès, in Val di Sole (Trentino). The origins of Borgo Malanotte are very remote: the first evidence of the existence of this inhabited center dates back to 1400. This ancient settlement was a fortified place on the road that led to the ford of Lovadina, a fundamental crossing point of the Piave at the time , and was frequented since its origins by merchants, men of arms and pilgrims who gave a first impulse to the economic development of the village. In the 17th century, following the acquisition of the village by the Malanotte family, the Villa del Borgo and the Oratory of San Giovanni Battista were built.
Today the village hosts various events and historical re-enactments. The atmosphere that surrounds it is very special and suggestive. Walking along Via del Borgo, among colorful capitals, cool arcades and precious frescoes, offers anyone who crosses it fantastic sensations of approaching the ancient and local traditions.
